Due to what has mentioned, it seems to be less mandatory to learn English for senior high school students。 As a consequence, self-learning plays a much more significant role in English study。 Being one of the most essential traits of self-learning, self-control greatly influences the effectiveness of learning English。 Therefore, whether the capacity of self-control, no matter it is deliberately trained or naturally initiated, will affect English performance catches our attention and this project aims to find out the effect of self-control training on students’ English performance at senior high school。
1。2 Layout of the paper
After consulting for a great number of literature materials, basic items and relations between self-control and English performance are carried out for deeper research。 Since the main purpose of this project is to seek out the effect of self-control training on students’ English, a second language performance, the study first analyzes the factors influencing students’ English performance by questionnaire given to students in Grade 2, Huzhou Senior High School。 In the next stage, students in different classes are pided into experimental and control groups under different conditions whether they have self-control training。 Since it is hard to directly judge the performance of English learning, English test scores are used to present their performance。 Therefore, by comparison of the scores before and after as well as with and without self-control training, the effect of self-control training on students’ English performance is logically clarified。

2。1 Self-control
2。1。1 The concept of self-control
When mentioned self-control, someone who is short of impulse control will easily get access to some wrong behaviors, maybe leading to inestimable consequences throughout the grown-up period, such as non-ideal grades in class, inharmonious relationships with people surrounding, bad health conditions, etc。 (Moffitt 1993)。 As a result, Bertrams and Dickhauser defined that self-control is such an essential component of one’s physical and mental construction, to some degree defined as the process of changing or altering people’s reactions towards the temptations and attractions around (2011)。 Towards other expressions, self-control is equal to self-regulation of emotion and behavior driven by personal value and goals (Baumeiser, Heattherton, & Tice, 1994; Duckworth & Seligman 2005)。 With the development of research in this field, self-control has been classified with two items, inhibitory and initiatory self-control, raised by Boer, Bakker and Hooft (2011)。 Inhibitory self-control has something to do with the inhibition of particular impulse while initiatory self-control means the process leading by initiation of targeted behavior with motivation (Englert & Bertrams, 2012)。
Up to now, actually there is no definite concept of self-control, even no unified words to describe it in home and over abroad。 But in general, there are three typical definitions of self-control。 Firstly, put forward by Kopp (2001) and others from the angle of moral and social behaviors, self-regulation or self-control means the restrain of impulse violating social moral standard, the opposite feature of which is aggression。 Secondly, it is defined as effective control by Rothbart (2000), from the perspective of temperament。 It represents the ability to control the preponderant reaction and carry out the inferior response。 Thirdly, Block (1987) and his followers believe self-control is composed by ego-control and ego-resilience。 Ego-control refers to the threshold of inpidual cognition, emotional impulse, behaviors and motivation expression, while ego-resilience means inpidually initiate capacity of control and regulation, which is used to fit in the restrain and possibilities of environment or to acquire the viability and ability to achieve a long-tern goal。 Though the concepts of self-control are various, they seem to contain the same meaning that self-control is the restrain of the preponderant reaction and evoking the inferior response。论文网
