The development starts from the translation of foreign works。 In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, various types of fictions were brought in China while the science fiction was one of the advocacy types, it had firstly been introduced and translated。 In 1900 Yi Ru and Xue Shaohui translated Around the World in Eighty Days (Jules Verne)(《海底两万里》) , Lu Xun translated De la terra la lune trajet en 97 heures et 20 minutes (Jules Verne)(《从地球到月球》)in 1903。 Except translations, some Chinese authors started creating their own works。 When 1905, Xu Nianci published his Xin Faluo Xiansheng Tan (《新法螺先生谭》)which represented the start of Chinese science fiction。 However because of the low science education level , the development of Chinese science fiction at that time still had large gap with that of western developed countries。
After the establishment of new China, Chinese science fiction ushered a high tide for the government call people to “March to science。”The representative works at this period were A Dream Tour of the Solar System (Zhang Ran)(《梦游太阳系》), From Earth to Mars(《从地球到火星》) and the Mars Constructor(Zheng Wenguang)(《火星建设者》)。
After the Cultural Revolution, China’s science fiction entered a new developing stage。 In the early 80s, Chinese fiction got unprecedented prosperity。 Meanwhile the major literary journals had published fictional works。 Nevertheless in the mid 80s, barrage of criticism of science fiction appeared suddenly in Chinese society。 People blamed that many science fictions broadcast pseudoscience and exposed the dark of society 。 Also, those works were tastelessness。
Fortunately the Chinese science fiction burst forth new brilliance after 90s。 Under the stimulation of more and more foreign works, Chinese readers begin to produce a strong reading desire for science fiction, thus promoted the arrival of a new spring of Chinese science fiction。 Wu Yan(吴岩), Xinghe(星河), Hansong(韩松) and Liu Cixin (刘慈欣)are representative authors of this period。 And the Three Body Problem《三体》is the first Chinese Science fiction to translate into English and win the Hugo Award。 Hao Jingfang(郝景芳) is one of the new generation science fiction writers。 Her Beijing Zhedie is the second Chinese work to win the Hugo Award。 With the rapid development of Chinese literature and Chinese science,Chinese science fiction creation has every possibility of entering a more prosperous golden era。
