1) Cooperative learning is a studying environment in which students work in small groups to achieve a common goal. (Slavin, 1990)
2) Cooperative learning is an effective teaching form which offers students maximum opportunities for meaningful classroom interactions in a supportive environment, therefore students can arouse their interest, stimulate their motivation and improve their achievement and social adjustment. (Shaaban, 2006)
3) Cooperative learning is the instructional use of small groups in which every student cooperates and helps with each other so as to maximize each one’s learning. (Johnson & Johnson, 2008)
4) Cooperative learning is a creative teaching approach which takes cooperative groups as its basal organization form and implements the coordinating inter-activities among teachers and students so as to complete the shared task. (Wang, 2002)
Although the definitions of cooperative learning are different, they all attach great importance on the interaction and collaboration among students. From these definitions we can draw a conclusion that the key point in cooperative learning is the cooperation and interaction between group members.
