AbstractThe novel Oliver Twist of Charles Dickens is an enduring classic masterpiece. The story happenedat London, in the nineteenth Century, which told the story of Oliver and some other children's tragiclife experience. Oliver is an orphan who is born in a workhouse and is then sold into anapprenticeship with an undertaker. He escapes from there and travels to London where he meets theArtful Dodger, a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets, which is led by the elderly criminalFagin. In Oliver Twist, Oliver experiences various misfortunes. Oliver encountered all kinds ofsufferings and experienced countless poignancy. Finally, with the help of kind people, he found hisfamily and got a happy ending. Charles Dickens’ description to characters appeared was penetratingwith extremely love and hate. This novel revealed the dark reality of the society and used thetragedy of children to reflect the persecution which British bourgeois brought to the general public.Author also expressed the sympathy and concern for the innocent children.This paper mainly studies a core theme of the novel, that is, there is no place for children. It is ofpractical significance to analyze the deep reasons of the phenomenon on the basis of understandingthe tragic experiences of children and to integrate it into the present society and to give us an alertfor future generations.57162

1 IntroductionOliver Twist (1837) is one of the greatest novels of all times by Charles Dickens (1812—1870).Oliver Twist is set in London and tells the story of some miserable children. There is a maincharacter, Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan who is born in a workhouse and is then sold into anapprenticeship with an undertaker.
