Abstract Privacy is a mechanism for people to control and regulate the interaction with others. In the current process of cultural pluralism and globalization, privacy issue has become the big issue of growing concern. Due to the differences of Chinese and Western background, Chinese and Westerners have different values. Thus the meaning of privacy, the scope of management, solution and the awareness of the maintenance of privacy are different. In intercultural communication, people's different views on privacy due to cultural differences between east and west result in communication barriers. This paper focuses on the analysis of the specific manifestations and reasons of the differences between Chinese and Western concept of privacy, so as to reduce the conflicts of culture, and promote international exchanges and communication which is carried out smoothly.61265

摘要隐私是人们控制及调节与他人交往的机制，在当前文化多元化和文化全球化的进程中，隐私问题已成为人们日益关注的问题。在跨文化交际中，由于中西方文化差异而引起的人们的隐私观的差异，中国人和西方人持有不同的价值观念，因而对于隐私的含义、范畴的理解以及维护隐私的意识也不相同，在国际交往中难免因此产生冲突。本文重点分析了中西方隐私观差异的具体表现形式及原因，以减少文化的冲突，推动国际交流顺利进行。

1. Introduction 

Personal life has been changed a lot with the popularization of globalization, the development of modern communication technology and the increasing persity of media networks. Intercultural communication is becoming increasingly frequent. However, in the meanwhile, a large number of communication errors, barriers and conflicts come into being because of these cultural differences, so that people have a larger distance between their minds. The differences are not caused by the competition of territory or different policy, but the huge differences in cultures and values. Because of that, privacy as an important portion in the intercultural communication has often brought about communicational obstacles. Differences resulted from different histories and cultural values lead to the different concepts of privacy between China and western countries. It also results in some potential barriers to intercultural communication and inefficient misunderstanding of cultures. Therefore, the study on the topic can minimize a variety of communication barriers, obstacles and unnecessary misunderstandings when communicating with westerners. 文献综述
