4.Relevant Problems in Junior High School English Teaching
4.1 From the Perspective of Students
Through investigation and case analysis, we have found that there being exists many serious problems in students’ daily English learning.
First of all, In 2002, Chen Lixuan, pointed out “The key of effective teaching strategy is to stimulate students' initiative, enthusiasm in English study, and the cultivation of independent learning abilities, inquiry learning ability, reflective learning ability.”(Chen Lixuan 2002:207.)Also, the New Curriculum Standard requires students to play the subjective role in the English class teaching and become masters of the English class, especially for those Junior high school English learners. It is particularly important. For instance, R Ballentyne et al said “Effective teaching refers to the successful implementation of a clear objective, that is to say, students are willing to study and can be engaged in the learning which they can't make it before class" (R Ballentyne et al. 1999:247).But according to the results of my survey, the inherent pattern of English learning is "having class, taking notes, finishing homework”. This pattern of English learning activities cannot embody the interactive sense of English class teaching atmosphere. This problem would be eternal for a long time under our current exam-oriented education system.
