1。 Introduction
Reading is one of the four basic skills in language teaching and learning in junior middle school。 Through reading, students could not only gain information from different reading materials, but also relax themselves as well as get inspired。 Reading is an extremely important skill for students because they can learn other subjects, such as science and philosophy, by reading the books in English。 But reading is not easy as we imagined。 For many students, the ability to comprehend the reading materials is too weak to understand the materials in the demanded level of New English Curriculum (2011)。 Even worse, most of them have difficulty in using the appropriate reading strategies。
Nowadays in middle schools, teachers attach great importance to improving students reading comprehension。 More and more teachers begin to teach reading strategies in the class and they also pay attention to students’ skills training。 The reading part in the textbook (PEP) also adds topic-related reading strategies。 Almost every unit has one reading strategy in its reading part。 Since reading is so important, the study will focus on the reading comprehension in the junior middle school。来自优Y尔L论W文Q网wWw.YouERw.com 加QQ7520~18766
There are many factors may influence the process of reading comprehension。 According to Funda ÿlmez(2016), factors like vocabulary knowledge, topic familiarity, perceived situational interest, sources of interest and strategic reading behaviors, are in close relation to reading comprehension。 Moreover, the language setting and textual and syntactic structures will also influence the comprehension of reading。
During my teaching internship in CQ Middle School, the author found that students always have problems in understanding the pronouns, especially the demonstrative pronouns。 They might be confused when they confront a sentence or sentences with more than one demonstrative pronoun。 If the demonstrative pronoun and its referent(s) are far from each other, students will also get confused。 But as a very small part in the whole range of pronouns, the demonstrative pronouns are, to certain extent, overlooked。 My purpose of study is to find out the main causes for the misunderstanding of demonstrative pronouns and the efficient ways to promote the comprehension of pronouns in English reading。
