Abstract A Little Princess is a classic fairy tale written by Francesco Hodgson Burnett, which has been already made into movies two times and interpreted into a variety of languages all over the world。 Thus, the writer of book-Burnett gained the reputation both at home and abroad。93548
Based on the theory of humanism, this paper is aimed at making an analysis of A Little Princess from three aspects, including the pursuit of liberty, the desire of equality and the maintenance of dignity。 Through the analysis of the humanistic factors in the novel, the writer underlines the importance of pursuing and respecting the development of human beings。

Francesco Hodgson Burnett, born in 1849, was a well-known female writer, who gained her fame as a novelist by her expressive and captivating children’s books, which includes The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess, which are distinguished nowadays。 In 1939, A Little Princess was adapted into a movie in which the famous child movie star-Shirley Temper played the role of Sara。 After the film was on, this book became more welcome and prevalent than it was at any time around the world。 As a result, Burnett was increasingly well-received。
A little Princess tells us a short story。 A very smart little girl-Sara Crewe, the British military officer’s only daughter in India, was brought up by his father after her mother died at the time when she was born。 When Sara was seven, she was sent to the UK to receive education。 Intelligent and easygoing, she gained great popularity among the students quickly。 What’s more, Miss Minchin blindly fawned Sara, whereas the condition didn’t last very long。 Then due to the business failure and severe illness, her father was dead。 All of a sudden, Sara fell into the abyss of misfortune and hardship。 Overnight, she was reduced to a worthless little maid who was driven out of the luxurious room and was not allowed to eat together with the former classmates in class。 Despite the unexpected strike, the original quality of Sara was not changed。 Later, with the aid of the people around, the idea of her being a real princess comes true。 In addition, many other vividly drawn characters who actually had the similar strengths as Sara grew up together with her in this story。
