The Bluest Eye has a great effect on the United States’ literary field; The New York Times even commented it as a great work, which caused people to think deeply about the statue of the black women。
Keith Byerman in Beyond Realism:The Fiction of Toni Morrison pointed out that “it was the African traditional culture led to the gender discrimination which had seriously great bad influence on the black women。 Because of such absurd traditional culture gave the discrimination a reasonable statue。 As a result, the black women could hardly get away from the tragedy。”(56)
Xie Qun in his The Distortion and Variation in The Bluest Eye referred that Morrison made use of the flowers and nature to highlight the conflict between the White and the Black culture。 He referred that the black people belonged to the weak group in America; it was easy for them to affect by the White culture so that they would lose their own culture gradually。 As to the black women, the weaker group, compared with the black men, they became the target easily, which caused the black women’s tragedy (Xie 88)。
Zhang Xuexiang, the author of The Bluest Eye——The Tragedy under the Double Discrimination, deemed that ” Due to that in the African traditional culture women was considered evil, women was discriminated naturally。 The rooted gender discrimination caused the black women’s tragedy。”(27)
