    摘要中国高校大学生在英文写作时,虽然在词汇拼写、语法运用上并无大问题,但往往会出现词汇匮乏,语言平淡,文意不连贯等问题。本文通过对32篇来自2014“外研社杯”全国英语写作大赛南京理工大学选拔赛的参赛作文进行分析,结合韩礼德与哈桑的语篇衔接理论与侯仪的词汇重复理论,统计各年级大学生运用不同词汇衔接/重复手段的数量,研究分析大学生常用与不常用的衔接方式,以此为基础提出一些如何加强词汇衔接/重复教学的思考,以期英语对词汇教学和大学英语写作教学有一定的指导意义。28707

    Title  An Analysis of Lexical Repetition Ties in English Argumentative Writing of College Students in Different Grades
    Abstract
    In Chinese college students’ English writing, problems like limited variety of vocabulary, the plainness of language, incoherence of the text often occur whereas problems of wrong spelling or grammar seldom happen. This paper has collected data from 32 compositions of 2014 “FLTRP Cup” National English Writing Contest in Nanjing University of Science and Technology tryout  and gotten the statistics of variety of lexical repetition/cohesion ties occurred in subjects of different grades based on Halliday and Hasan’s lexical cohesion theory and Hoey’s repetition theory, figuring out the frequency of each lexical cohesion tie. And built on this, this paper is trying to give some suggestions on lexical repetition/cohesion education and contribute to the development of vocabulary and English writing education.

    1 Introduction
        Writing can directly reflect one’s command of one language. So writing ability is quite essential to every English learners. But for long, Chinese students always have the problem in writing a good essay even most of them have learned English for more than a decade. The beginners of English studying usually focus on vocabulary, grammar and sentence pattern whereas ignore the importance of structure of the text. The mistakes occur in compositions of high-level English learners are not often on grammatical level, but on structure and coherence level. Especially when the problems come to coherence, learners have no ideas how to deal with them. Taking English as the second language, most learners still think in a native-language way instead of thinking like a native English speaker, which lead to the incoherence in their English writing. Their ignorance on the significance of lexical repetition/cohesion is a main problem. Since lexical repetition/cohesion is an important standard to judge coherence, analyzing and improving students writing skill on lexical repetition/cohesion should not be ignored.
