From the above, we could see the former studies on Nortanger Abbey mainly focus on two aspects. The one is the elements of Gothic in the novel and the other is the analysis of feminine education theme. This paper attempts to excavate the voice of revolting patriarchal society hidden in Nortanger Abbey, and tries to find the subtle relationship between feminism and patriarchal society.
1.4 Research Design and Methodology
This article uses literature research method to get enough information from the literatures especially Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, and then analyze some details of the plot and characters in it.
By studying knowledge related to feminism and exploring the sounds that Austen wants to make, Northanger Abbey can be a good example for us. This fiction is the only one work of Austen that has an unconventional heroine. Austen is good at describing common families in the country without complicated plot and spectacular scenes. Researching the time when Austen lives can help us understand her work better.
