2.1.2. Four features of interpretation distinguish itself from translation in 2.1.3. 2.1.1 Definitions of Interpretation In essence, interpreting is an extemporaneous language activity transferring from one into another(Qi,1983). Hu Gengshen (2000) shares the similar view with Qi. He believes that interpreting is a kind of process during which oral expressive information is transferred between two languages with the aim of understanding the information conveyed. Seleskovitch (1998) thinks interpreting is communication including the analysis of source language and its target language accessible to the listeners. In Mei Deming’s (2011) point of view, interpreting is a linguistic process. The information in source language is expressed in target language, a linguistic symbol, through decoding and encoding for communication. It can be concluded from all the definitions above that interpreting is a communicative process, transforming a language to another to make the two parties understand each other. 2.1.2 Types of Interpretation There are various kinds of interpreting, for example, conference interpreting, escort interpreting, business interpreting in terms of the content and the occasion. Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, two most frequently used types, are introduced in this dissertation and the latter one can be further pided into three types, conference interpreting, sight interpreting and whispering
