TBLT was first put forward by Prabhu (1987) in the 1980s. He hosted English Communicative Teaching Educational Reform Experiment in a primary school in Indian Bangalore area and proposed task-based teaching approach, which has been identified as the first step for the TBLT. On the basis of this theory, Nunan (1989) studied the task design pattern in communicative class. Willis (1996) also presented a very influential task-based learning framework. As for Skehan (1998), he summed up the five characteristics of the task. These studies have enriched the theory of task-based learning, which has plumped the concept of TBLT.
