    PTC:
    PTC (production technology center) is located at Trollhättan. The research team is doing research mainly in the following fields:
        Flexible Industrial Automation
        Machining and Metal Forming
        Thermal Spraying
        Welding Technology
    PTC is facilitated by a well-equipped research laboratory. The whole process of project work is accomplished in PTC. [Some information from ptc.hv.se]
    1.1    Background
    Recently, the production line in PTC is under reconstruction and the designer has the intention to optimize the production line to satisfy higher level production requirement. For their initial thoughts, the tracking and positioning system will be integrated into the real-time production line which could promote the efficiency and productivity. According to the research about the familiar techniques in the industry field, Volvo, one of the most famous Swedish car manufacturers in the world, is using passive RFID technology to track two million cars as they move through the production process at its manufacturing facilities in Belgium and China. As the current data shown, the output of cars has improved a lot compared that it was. Therefore, it could be much efficient to have tracking system in production line.
    Furthermore, all the countries promote the computerization of the manufacturing industry and the tendency of developing and exploring tracking and indoor-positioning system in manufacturing is increasing on a global scale. For participates, It is also a hard-won opportunity to carry out such project in PTC and learn the advanced techniques.   
    1.2    Overview of previous works
    For starting the project, the previous work has been done. A project description has been formulated at the very beginning for defining process and giving a short description, see appendix A. The project schedule has been formulated as well for ensuring that the project can be executed efficiently and all process has a clear guideline. The work schedule can be seen in appendix B.
    A ten-week literature research has been carried out to have basic understanding of all kinds of possible techniques. There are a bunch of different tracking and positioning methods used in manufacturing industry. So it is kind of importance to choose the very promising techniques to study. Here in the initial state, this literature research involves three tracking methods, like Barcode, QR-code and RFID (radio frequency identification), as well as three indoor positioning methods such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi positioning, camera positioning. Another purpose of literature research is to examine different tracking methods benefits and drawbacks, cost analysis and after comparing them with each other and decide which method is better for this project.
