First of all, I will give my profound gratitude to my tutor Ms for her priceless advice, important comments and diligent error correction during our discussion sessions. Abstract
Kurt Vonnegut was one of the greatest and the most symbolic author of the American black humor literature. Slaughterhouse-Five was his sixth and the most important novel of his all, which brought him massive success and fame, and he therefore achieved a representative reputation in his field of writing. Adopting the concept of new historicism as the basis, the thesis will study Kurt Vonnegut and his famous Slaughterhouse-Five to exploit a new perspective of the significance of his work.
This research paper will look into several dimensions, it will mainly cover things like Kurt Vonnegut’s life and his work, and it will also introduce new historicism with historicity and textuality. And Kurt Vonnegut’s unique way of narrating will be mentioned likewise.
This thesis is mainly separated into five parts. Relevant details of Kurt Vonnegut, new historicism and the literature review made by scholars at home and abroad in the chapter one. After getting better acquainted with the basic details, the following two chapters will introduce the method and concept of new historicism within different dimensions. The fourth chapter will discuss the truth of the war and disclose the social significance of Slaughterhouse-Five. At last, the final part is a conclusion which depicted the profound influence this novel had on the social lives of American people and help readers better understand these historical events and phenomenon.

摘要 库尔特•冯尼古特被誉为是美国当代黑色幽默文学中最具代表性并且是最为杰出的一位作家。《五号屠场》是库尔特•冯尼古特的第优尔部同时也是他所有作品中最为重要的一部小说，这本小说不仅给他带来了颇为巨大的名声和成就，而且他同时也因此奠定了他在自己所在领域中的代表性地位。这篇论文将会采用新历史主义的观念作为基础，并借此来学习和研究库尔特•冯尼古特他本人以及他那本著名的《五号屠场》,以此能够从一个新的视角来审视这本小说所蕴含的时代意义。
这篇论将会以多种角度多种方式进行入手，主要包括了对于库尔特•冯尼古特以及对于他的作品的介绍和分析。除此以外，文章也会通过阐释历史性与文本性之间相互关系的方式来介绍新历史主义的概念和构想。同样的，库尔特•冯尼古特独特的写作叙述方式也会被有所提及。
