The Influence of Skopos Theory on the Translation of Children’s Literature—A Case Study of Translation of Charlotte’s Web
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Purpose of the Research
Children’s literature is the first step to guide children into the world of literature, so it plays an indispensible role in the growth and development of children. However, Adults pay little attention to its functions and features. Translated texts of children’s literature are no exceptions, especially in China. Although we have translated a lot of foreign classics, we ignored the quality of children’s literature. Most translated texts are from an adult perspective, which fail to get across to our children. In this regard, we make little contribution to international communication and progress. For this reason, the author of the present thesis studies the methods and strategies adopted in the translation process of children’s literature through an analysis of two versions of Charlotte’s Web, with the consideration of its functions and features, hoping to help translators to produce more suitable translated texts for children readers in such a modern time.
In the end, the thesis will answer the two question:
1. Which version is more suitable?
2. What methods and strategies should be adopted in translation of children’s literature to serve children better?
1.2 Significance of the Research
Children who are easily influenced by the environment, and children’s literature opens the door for them to touch the outside world, feel different experiences and develop the values. That is to say, children’s literature helps shape healthy personality.
