Noticing the great importance of information gap in English teaching, the article gives a brief introduction of Information gap. As the fundamental force of language communication, it plays important roles in English teaching, such as stimulating the students’ learning motivation, promoting the second language acquisition and developing their communicative competence. Combining with theory of language acquisition and communicative approach, it can benefit the language learner a lot. 2.1 The Definition of Information gap in broad and narrow sense
In a broad sense, information gap refers to the difference of people command over information. People’s language activities, which are used to deliver and exchange information, are taken place, due to the difference. The way of information delivered and exchanged is what called “communication”. Using communication, people try to narrow and sometimes fill the gap to balance the information they have, so that they can achieve the goal of communication.
