This thesis involves five chapters, the first chapter gives a brief introduction to what is included in the article and the reason of writing this thesis, the second chapter is literature review, it is about the significance of writing this paper and the major theories and opinions from authoritative scholars, also, the origin of this topic。 The third chapter introduces the definition of business English and contains some examples to analyze characteristics of business English vocabularies。 In fourth chapter, it mainly uses some actual cases to introduce applications of Business English vocabularies in commercial activities。 The chapter five concludes the whole paper and emphasizes the importance of learning Business English vocabularies。 In this way, it will be convenient for readers to get the key information of Business English vocabularies。
2。 Literature Review
About 25 years ago, people in Western countries have done lots of studies on strategies of learning vocabularies of a second language。 However, in recent years, with the development of Business English, many scholars have turned their attention to the Business English vocabulary, because there are some differences between Business English and Common English, the most essential difference is in their vocabularies。 Just as He Hui considers, vocabulary is the basic unit of the language and has a conclusive effect on the validity of language communication, different careers need different vocabularies, the study of the vocabulary is also different。 (He, 2011)。 The fast development of information technology and economic globalization has advanced interdisciplinary fusion and development。 As for linguistics, language for special purposes come out rapidly, Business English is one of them。 As a result, many scholars turn their eyes to characteristics of Business English vocabulary, Ou Qiuyun advocates that in commercial environment, Business English refers to finance, foreign trade, insurance, accounting, marketing, laws, and so on。 Business English vocabulary is more professional and rigorous, she also uses many examples to prove her ideas。 (Ou, 90)。 Just as famous British linguistician Wilkins says。 Without grammar very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed。 (Wilkins 1970)。 From Wilkins, we know that vocabulary is so important, characteristics of Business English vocabulary and its applications in commercial activities are worthy of doing study on them。 Take Wang Shuang and Cheng Tiantian for instance, Wang Shuang mainly analyzes characteristics of Business English vocabularies by origin of vocabularies and word formation, she believes that Business English vocabularies are special。 (Wang, 2013)。 Cheng Tiantian emphasizes that Business English vocabulary provides both business parties with accurate and professional service, promotes communications between businessmen。 (Cheng, 2016)。
3。 The Characteristics of Business English vocabularies。
Business English is English language especially related to international trade and is English for occupational purpose。 Comparing with Common English vocabulary, Business English vocabulary is much more professional, elaborate and has its own vocabulary characteristic, it is the basic communication instrument in commercial activities。 Business English language is a kind of social phenomenon, under any circumstance, social development has an effect on the language, so as the vocabulary, any social change and appearance of new things will be reflected by the vocabulary。 Learn about characteristics of Business English vocabularies will be good for using them correctly in commercial activities。 This chapter analyzes the main characteristics of Business English vocabularies as follows。文献综述
3。1 Official, accurate and rigorous
In terms of vocabularies, Business English requires to be formal and strives to be accurate, and it mostly refers to commercial contracts, commercial agreements, business correspondence, business negotiation and meetings。 Commercial activities all relate to interest, so, the linguistic expressions must try to be professional, with no ambiguities, and have a close relationship with professional knowledge, bear the weight of large amount of information about commercial theories and practice。 A lot of professional vocabularies include abbreviations, compound words or new words combined by many nouns, for example, ad (advertisement), workfare (work + welfare)。
