2。 Literature Review
Syntactic meaning is a topic that is seldom noticed by many people。 As we know in language learning, the language learners often pay more attention to the syntactic structure of the target language instead of its syntactic meaning。 In fact, the syntactic meaning of a language can lead the learners to different comprehension of sentences and passages in their learning。 In other word it’s necessary to know well about the syntactic meaning of a language when we are learning it。
2。1 The importance of syntactic meaning in language learning
Syntax to language is what gas to a car; without the syntax the language will not be able to “run”。 Moreover, the syntactic meaning of a language is the most obvious expression of its culture。 If one reads and understands the meaning of what a sentence is telling, it won’t be hard for him to understand the expression and culture of the country and to use that language。 That’s why syntactic meaning is so important in learning。来*自~优|尔^论:文+网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766*
2。2 Studies on Chinese and English syntactic meaning
Language transfer has long been a central issue in applied linguistics, second language acquisition and language teaching。 In the last few decades, its importance in second language acquisition has been reassessed several times。 (Zhu 2014)In some researches of the syntactic meaning of Chinese and English, researchers and experts have shown many characteristics that are similar or different。 English has a strict tense of verbs and voices which is in stable form and easy to handle。 However, in Chinese syntax, the range of verbs, nouns, predicates and adjectives is very wide and they can easily expand to each other, the structure of sentences in Chinese is very complex and changeable。(Zhang 2009) It’s because of the complex and changeable structure of Chinese, many learners are always stuck when they are reading English papers or essays。 In Chinese, the meaning of a sentence can easily changed by the reduction or subjoin of a single word but in English this kind of word changing can cause serious grammatical mistakes。 Besides, the kinds of special sentence of Chinese and English are also different, both Chinese and English have some kinds of special sentence that the other one doesn’t own。 On the other hand, many English learners apply to use the syntax pattern of Chinese in English learning unconsciously under the long-term influence of our mother language。 This mistake can lead to bigger problems about words and sentences which doesn’t fit the right expression of English。 (Wang and Guo 2011) The culture of the Eastern and the Western is totally different, not just the languages differ, but more importantly is the thinking ways of different people。 The interference of word orders, expression of time, related words, persons, omission of words and complex sentences can all cause difficulties when we Chinese learners are trying to grasp the point of an English sentence or passage。 (He 2012) We can see the main difficulty in English learning through all these researches is that the two different language patterns make it hard to handle English with the way we learn Chinese。 If a Chinese student wants to learn English well, he or she must know the differences between English and our mother language and find the right way to learn English。 In this case, the learner should try to learn English just like how the people who use English as their first language do but not learning in the traditional Chinese pattern。
