Similar emotion was also shared in Keats’s To My Brother George in which he writes:

E’en now, dear George, while this for you I write,

Cynthia is from her silken curtains peeping

So scantly, that it seems her bridal night,

And she her half-discover’d revels keeping。

But what, without the social thought of thee,

Would be the wonders of the sky and sea? (Keats, 2009)

Keats worked on the poem after his brother Tom’s death and George’s departure。 Suffered from illness, he could still appreciate all the wonders, whereas with no brother in his side, he felt all the wonders and the tender night senseless。

Maybe because night owns the moon which waxes and wines, I feel night extremely a time for sentimental emotion。 Hence what veiled in the tender night could be a moving story of kinship, friendship or love, compassing gathering and parting, losing and missing。

Second, at night, it’s not hollow darkness but with limited light and creatures hiding in its black cloak。 In such a blurry and enigmatic atmosphere, it’s perfect for a fancy story to happen。 The play of Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare Navigators), just depicts four young Athenians’ “adventure” at night。 They escape from the Duke’s palace to the forest one night where by chance lives fairy queen and king。 At the beginning, Lysander and Hermia are two lovers who try to elope because of Hermia’s father’s forced marriage between Hermia and Demetrius。 And after Helena who falls for Demetrius tells him their plan, Demetrius follows to kill Lysander。 However, in the interference of the troublemaker fairy Punk with the magic effect of a plant called love-in-idleness, the juice of which is powerful enough to make any person dote on the next creature he or she sees, the situation totally reverses。 Both men engage themselves irredeemably in the pursuit of Helena, which almost lead to a serious duel。 Fortunately, as a comedy, it has a happy ending as always。 The fairy king finally demands Puck to reverse the spell on Lysander and he also casts a spell to erase the lovers’ certain part of memory。 As a result, the four makes two couples and the wired experience is regarded as a cock-eyed yet verisimilar dream。

Apart from marveling or mourning at what an apparently irrational and whimsical thing love is, at least when experienced between youngsters, A Midsummer Night's Dream inspires my pondering of dream and reality。 Dream is not real, yet it does have something to do with reality。 It can function as a false attempt, thus save the try in the real world like characters in the drama; or it can be served as a relief, as was written in Crack-up: “I slept on the heart side now because I knew that the sooner I could tire that out, even a little, the sooner would come that blessed hour of nightmare which, like a catharsis, would enable me to better meet the new day。”(Edmund, 1945)来*自~优|尔^论:文+网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766*

It seems that night has magic for the sake of dreams which it owns and among which all the awful parts are categorized as nightmares and all the comfortable parts as sweet dreams。 And it is the kaleidoscopic dreams that endow the night with mysticism which provokes our awe or avidity。 My horizon has expanded after all the analysis, thus from my point, Tender could be a fairy tale, a fantasy story or an absurd adventure story。
