Chapter One Introduction

1。1 The background

 Language is a special kind of social phenomenon。 It’s one of the most important communication tools for people。 Marx believes "A foreign language is a weapon in the struggle of life。" Therefore, foreign language teaching has attracted more and more people's attention in our country。 The awareness of its importance has risen in relation to the survival level。

Psychologists also believe that the best phase of learning a foreign language is between the age of 6 and 12。 (Zhao & Wang, 2002: 246) In China, learning foreign languages, particularly learning English is increasingly drawing people’s attention。 The craze for learning English not only exists in college and high school, even in primary school, English courses are provided。 The Ministry of education has developed the "full time compulsory education and general high school English curriculum standards" in 2001。 The standard requires that the opening of English courses begins from grade three in primary school。 

Modern educational psychology and teaching theory research tell us that the effect of classroom teaching not only depends on how the teachers teach but also depends on a certain teaching environment。 The teaching environment refers to the teaching of the material environment and spiritual environment。 This kind of spiritual environment refers to the classroom atmosphere。 But the problems, such as depressing classroom atmosphere and the students’ brief period of enthusiasm in class are exposed in English teaching arouse concern in foreign language teaching circle。 Once the English classroom lose vitality, children will lose interest and confidence in learning, thus, children will have trouble in their future learning。 

This paper will discuss the methods of building up good classroom atmosphere in primary school from combining of the practice of English classroom teaching with the present situation of English classroom teaching in primary schools。论文网

1。2 The significance and purpose

Classroom atmosphere refers to a psychological state of teachers and students in the classroom teaching, which is directly related to the effectiveness of teachers’ teaching and students’ learning efficiency。 The strength and continuous improvement of quality education innovation bring new opportunity to the development of primary school education in our country。 In order to implement and carry out the relevant requirements of primary school English education, the paper believes teachers should improve the quality of primary education in English effectively, which can start from the mobilization of primary school English classroom atmosphere。
