In this paper, we are going to probe into the denominal verbs from cognitive perspective: metonymy。 Then, how to define metonymy as a cognitive theory? Before answering this question, we should put the most accepted definition of metonymy in previous studies into consideration: Metonymy is a figure of speech in which the name of one thing is used in place of that of another associated with or suggested by it (Webster's New World Dictionary, 3rd ed。)。
