Abstract Allan Poe is an outstanding American poet, novelist and literary critic in the nineteenth century。 He is regarded as the founder of psychology novels, detective novels and science fictions, and also as the pioneer of aestheticism。 At the same time, he is also a representative writer of gothic novels who excels at depicting people’s inner thoughts and adopting death theme to highlights the moral exploration and humanity controversy。 His novel describes the struggle of good and evil in everybody’s soul and the fear of punishment and death in the poignant horror indeed。 On the basis of the brief summary of Poe’s life, theme and purpose of creation, and the text itself, this paper analyzes the narration strategy of Poe from the three aspects — first-person narrative, the exaggeration of atmosphere, and the application of symbolism, aiming to explore the horror effect and revelation of humanity in his horror fiction。
