Abstract Mystery novel is an indispensable part in novel literature. In recent years, there have been lots of writers who began writing mystery novels, most of which were influenced by Western mystery novels, especially those written by Edgar Allan Poe, an American master of mystery novels. However, by virtue of the differences of Chinese and Western culture and historical backgrounds and other causes, Chinese mystery novel and Edgar Allan Poe's mystery works’ differences are obvious to be seen. This article will combine part of Poe’s creative concept to discuss the differences between them---Edgar Allan Poe’s and Cai Jun who is famous for his mystery novels in China, from several aspects, such as religions involved in creating, the images used in the suspense novels and some writing skills, in order to find some new ideas for the future development of Chinese suspense novels, which would inject fresh blood into China’s literacy creation.59074

Today's horror mystery fictions are mostly network literature, like Cai Jun, Zhang Muye, with the pen name of Tian Xia Ba Chang, Xu Lei whose pen name is Nan Pai San Shu and so on. These writers are all firstly publishing their works on the Internet, and then appreciated by a number of netizens, finally making a big success overnight.
After analyzing these mystery novels carefully, you will find few of them are not influenced by the western mystery fictions. In terms of development trend, Chinese mystery fictions are majoring in imitating western horror mystery fictions, in the terms of character set, the structure of the story, or in the plot development, and even in image representative. And one of the most breakthroughs is a series of novels about grave, which involves many story featuring strong Chinese culture color, when it comes to the whole set up from the story and the plot, these novels still keep the trace of western horror mystery novel (Tian Yongling, 2011:221). But current Chinese mystery novels focus on some works belong to Chinese local literature, which is gratifying for our Chinese readers.
