6。2。Chemical Analysis
6。2。1。Material shall conform to the composition requirements of paragraph 6。1。 Analysis shall be made regularly only for the elements specifically mentioned。 If, however, the presence of other elements is suspected or indicated in the course of routine analysis, further analysis shall be made to determine that the total of other elements is not in excess of the limits specified。
6。2。2。Material shall be analyzed by either wet chemical or spectrochemical methods and the type of analysis reported。 Measurement error for each element shall also be stated in the report。 In the event of a dispute between supplier and Honeywell Turbo Technologies, referee analysis by a third party shall be by wet chemical analysis with standards traceable to the National Bureau of Standards。
6。3。Use of Revert
The supplier may combine alloy gates, sprues, risers, and scrap castings with virgin material in any proportion in the preparation of master heats provided that control of chemical composition and microstructure is adequate to ensure that the requirements of paragraph 6。1 are met。 They shall not be re-melted directly without refining for the pouring of castings。
7。Technical Requirements
7。1。Mechanical Properties
7。1。1。Tensile properties shall be measured on specimens machined and tested in conformance with ASTM E8 as shown in Figure 1。
7。1。2。Specimens shall be cut from castings in the location shown on the engineering drawing。
7。1。3。The minimum mechanical properties requirements at room temperature are as follows:

7。2。Hardness
7。2。1。Hardness measured in the location shown on the engineering drawing shall be in range 45
- 70 HBW 10/500。
7。2。2。Based on the agreement between the vendor and the customer, other locations (for example name plate area or bracket) can be used for the hardness measurements。
7。2。2。1 If HBW 10/500 cannot be used for the measurement at the locations specified in 7。2。2。, HBW 5/250 shall be used as the alternative after approval from Quality Department or Metallurgy Group representative。 Hardness shall be in range 45 – 70 HBW 5/250。
7。2。3。It should be noted that some post casting thermal treatments such as thermal de-coring may reduce the as-cast hardness to below the minimum value。 If the minimum “as-cast” hardness is not achieved following such thermal processes the supplier may, under acceptance of a qualified Honeywell representative, utilize a T5 heat treatment (205°C/8 hours, air cool) to achieve the required hardness level。 The maximum hardness value of the specification remains applicable if the T5 heat treatment is used。
7。3。Microstructure
7。3。1。The microstructure of the material typically consists of a network of silicon particles, which formed in the aluminum-silicon eutectic。
7。3。2。The sample for microstructure examination shall be prepared by standard metallographic techniques and etched (if applicable)。
