The solar wings stretch body is a major component of the three-axis stabilized satellite. The ability of a solar wing to successfully expand dictates the success or failure of a satellite launch. In aerospace history, solar wing expansion errors have occurred due to errors during satellite launch or due to runtime errors. For example, in June of 1981, India's in-orbit APPLE satellite solar array did not open, resulting in a complete satellite failure; in August of 1983, the U.S. Ford Motor Company’s INSAT satellite for development in India had an orbital solar array that could not be opened, the result of which was disaster.
