1.1 Background
The study of cross-cultural communication originated from the 1960s in America. It becomes vital to implement the education of cross-cultural communication and to cultivate the competences in modern society. With the development of the society, the communications among people with different culture backgrounds are becoming more and more frequent. And the task of foreign language teaching is just to cultivate foreign language talents with high qualities and profound cultural accomplishments. It will increase the identification and containment among different culture by emphasizing the cultivation of cross-cultural communicative competences, thereby promoting the development and exchanges among different culture. Currently, the cross-cultural communicative education is mainly implemented in the language teaching of middle school and universities, with the relatively few researches in primary schools. With the lack of knowing the differences between the culture at home and abroad, students in primary schools don’t master the knowledge of cross-cultural communication very well. In addition, teachers hold positive attitudes toward the importance of cross-cultural communication in English learning, with shallow overall understanding on it. Culture means the history, geography, local conditions, traditional customs, lifestyles, arts, behavior norms and values of one nation. Primary school is the initial stage of learning English in which children are curious, interested and affirmative.
