Abstract There is no doubt that the relationship between language and culture is very close。 Culture is the thinking mode, value orientation and behavior mode system of a kind of people。 Culture determines language, and language is the carrier of culture。 They interact and influence each other。 Vocabulary is the most active factor in language。 Going deeply into the culture characteristics and connotations behind the words can help to have a definite understanding of the cultures and enhance the grasp of the languages。 While translating, understand the deeper meaning from the related background knowledge of the words is the key point。 There are some basic color terms in English and Chinese, and it is the effect of the common physiological structure of human beings。 But these color terms have great differences in the cultural connotation, which is determined by the uniqueness of each culture。 This paper aims to have a basic understanding of the color terms in Chinese and English from three aspects。 Many views and examples from the classic literature and the translation texts are used to support the standpoints。 One is to contrast the differences of the culture connotations of the six basic color terms in English and Chinese by means of citing examples。 Then the paper is going to inquire into the three main influence factors。 And the last one is to make a basic overview of the translation of color terms in combination with the three commonly used translation strategies。72326

摘要毫无疑问,语言和文化之间的关系是非常密切的。文化是一类人的思维方式,价值取向和行为模式系统。文化决定语言,语言是文化的载体,两者相互作用,相互影响。词汇是语言中最活跃的因素。深究词汇背后的文化特征与内涵,才能由点及面地对文化进行一定的了解,才能做到更好地掌握语言。在英汉互译时,要从与其相关的背景知识去理解更深一层的含义。在英汉两种语言中具有一致的基本颜色,这是人共同的生理构造影响的,但是这些颜色词汇在文化内涵上却具有很大的差异性,这是由每个文化各自的独特性所决定的。本文参考名著和翻译类文献提炼观点和例证,主要通过举例说明的手段,对六个英汉基本颜色词,即红、白、黑、黄、蓝、绿的内涵差异性进行规整比较,深究影响中英颜色词内涵差异的地理环境,宗教因素以及社会文化这三个因素,结合常用的三种翻译方法,即直译法、意译法和替代法,对颜色词的翻译进行基本概述,以求对中英颜色词有一个基础的接触与了解。
