Previous scholars have made unremitting efforts on study of translation compensation strategies。 Foreign scholars made great effort to the study of translation compensation。 Nida (1964) mentioned about compensation in his book Toward the Science of Translating, but he did not explain translation compensation specially。 In their book the theory and practice of translation, Nida and Taber (1969), they did a primary discussion for compensation。 They advocated adopting idioms as a stopgap measure for translation conversation in the target text。 Within the researches on linguistics development, Nida (1993) Started compensation from the perspective of function when he discussed functional equivalence in his book Language, Culture and Translating。 Steiner (2001) made a brilliant exposition on translation compensation from the perspective of philosophy。 He considered that translation should restore the balance between the source text and target text。 However, Steiner seems attributed translation losses to the aesthetic subjects too much but neglected the language and cultural barriers in the aesthetic objects。 (Xia 148)。 Newmark (2001) specified his compensation theory with the examples of metaphor translation。 He pointed out that whether to use semantic translation to make metaphors in various texts can reappear in the target text or adopt a communicative translation to translate their meanings depends on the functions of metaphors in the source language。 Wolfram Wilss (2001) researched on compensation theory based on the frame of linguistics, he focused on studies of like second sentence and discourse levels in his book The Science of Translation: Problems and Methods。 Some other scholars also made effort to the study of translation compensation。 The four best-known forms of translation compensation were presented by Hervey and Higgins (1992)。 They are compensation in kind, compensation in place, compensation by merging and compensation by splitting。
