In the light of the theme of Bildungsroman, Liu Lu (2015) discussed the war background of characters’ growing and displays their changes due to different experience。 But comparing to general Bildungsroman, this novel emphasises more about inpidual will and dignity。 Although it set Europe as the background, most characters reflect the inpidualism in American literature。 Besides, she also mentioned about the writing skills of Doerr。 Doerr narrated the story by flashback and interlacing two main characters’ experience。 In this way, as simple as his words are, they are attractive and meaningful。
