2。1 An overview on Eco-translatology 论文网
With more and more intercultural communication between countries, translational activities are more frequent than any other time, which resulted in the appearance of new translational theories。 There is no doubt that translational theories play an important role in translation activities。 Many factors contribute to the emergence of the new theory---Eco-translatology。 Since the 1960s, human society has gradually begun to transit from industrial civilization to ecological civilization。 In 1972, the United Nations issued the famous declaration--- Declaration on the Human Environment, which led to the result that protecting the environment is the common duty of all mankind。 Thus, ecological problems have been attached great importance by more and more countries。 To follow the trend, China has been paying great attention to the problems of ecological environment, and then the sustainable development was proposed。 Affected by the ecological trend, ecology, as a branch of natural science, is clearly inescapable to permeate into a variety of scientific research fields, of course, the translation area included。 Under such circumstance, a new theory of ecological translation ---Eco-translatology came out。
Eco-translatology, put forward by Chinese scholar Hu Gengshen, originated from Darwin’s ecological evolution, the most significant part of which is “survival of the fittest”。 The adaption of nature means that all creatures attempted to adapt themselves to the nature in order to survive in the world while the selection of the nature means that the strong creatures will be selected by the nature among all creatures。 When it comes to translating, the one who can adapt to the environment is none but the translator。 That’s because only the translator can make adaption and selection in translation。
In 2000, a paper named A Fresh Look at Translation written by Eugene Nida was published, which held the view that if one wanted to adapt to other culture, he or she must make many decisions just like selection and adaption。 Other Chinese scholars such as Fang Mengzi also made discussion about these aspects。 In 2002, Xu Jun, a famous Chinese scholar, published a book The Choice in Translation in which he declared that during the whole translation process it is necessary for the translator to make translation choice。 Since 2001, Professor Hu has published more than 20 theoretical articles to demonstrate the theory of Eco-translatology。 In 2010, the first symposium about Eco-translatology---the First International Symposium on Eco-translatology was held in order to offer opportunities to Eco-translatology scholars to gather and exchange their views。 After these studies and discussions, Eco-translatology which was proposed by Professor Hu was gradually received by the scholars in this field。 Professor Hu declares that making three-dimensional transformation is the main translation method of Eco-translatology。 Meanwhile, Professor Hu also thinks that in order to make a perfect translation, it is a must for the translator to adopt adaptive transformation from multiple dimensions。 Thus this thesis will analyze the subtitle translation of an American Film Captain America: Civil War from the perspective of Eco-translatology in order to analyze the adaptive selection from three dimensions---linguistic, cultural and communicative dimension。
