3。1。1 Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange     

     According to the name of the novel, Heights implies the story happened in the mountains in the north of England。 Wuthering is a local adjective used to describe the wildness of the weather。 On the contrary, Thrushcross Grange  is as tranquil and harmonious as its name。 In fact, “the names of place first belong to the world of nature and the environment。” (Anne 113) Most of the storyline in Wuthering Heights takes place in Wuthering Heights, perhaps which is one of the reasons why Emily Bronte named the novel as Wuthering Heights。 The internal and external environments of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange differ greatly, so they represent two different lifestyles。
