Abstract Flower, which is closely related to human life, is a kind of plant in nature。 The flower language, reflecting human thought, human feelings, beautiful things and religious background, is an important part of Chinese and western culture。 Based on theoretical study of flower language and some typical examples, this paper carries out a careful examination of different flower language in China and the west。 By means of comparing the similarities and differences of flower language and analyzing related reasons, the paper attempts to give cultural explanations and explore the value of flower language。 Through analysis and comparisons, the author finds that China and the west share a great deal of flower language, but they are different to some degree。 The paper not only helps people to learn the culture and thought about flowers, but also has practical implications in cross-cultural communication and daily life。

Thanks to the development of globalization, the communication among countries is on the rise and the planet is becoming as small as a village。 Many plants like flowers have become the media of cross-cultural communication。 Flowers are closely related to human life。 They are indispensable for either physical surroundings or cultural environment。 They not only provide material basis for human beings, but also let them have association with their unique forms and behavior。 The nouns, originally used to refer to a variety of natural plants, except for the concept meaning, have been endowed with the extended meaning。 The meaning is the wisdom fruit of people。 In addition, the nouns not only help us to distinguish the characteristics of flowers, but also make us have a knowledge of the connotation of culture and human attitude and emotion。 There are a great deal of flower language in the west and China。 These words and expressions vividly reflect the cultural psychology and cognitive models of western and Chinese people。 Not knowing flower language may result in some troubles and misunderstanding during cross-cultural communication。 Therefore, understanding the differences and similarities of the flower language is important and necessary。 Many experts devote much time and energy to studying how to narrow the gap and how to achieve efficient communication at large。
