Abstract Toni Morrison is a black female writer, and so far the only American black woman writer who is awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. Nowadays she is recognized as one of the most outstanding novelists. Representative works of her are listed as: the Bluest Eye, Sula, Song of Solomon and so on. She was born in Ohio, the steel city of Los Angeles. She was a senior editor, writing autobiography and publishing it for black celebrities such as Muhammad ali. She is a spokeswoman for the black women, and her works are famous for striving for democratic freedom and equal rights for the black female. As is known to all, the white have been taking advantage of the black due to the villainous slavery. This group of people, sharing the same origin with the author are suffering from invisible chains, of which, most of them have not been aware due to the dominant white values. The story in this novel is narrated by a 9-year-old girl, Claudia. It records the experience of a 11-year-old girl, Pecola, as well as the narrator herself about how the white culture affects the black people in different families and communities.43381
This paper studies different fates of black women, especially of Pecola. It explore Pecola’s lost identity, which is in contrast with Claudia’s persistence. Then we will be able to further solve the problem of black women's rights. The paper will do good to defend the black women’s rights.
