Up to now, There are many scholars and translators who have already proposed many practical theories on idioms translation which contribute a lot. The study on idioms translation has taken different perspectives, such as the perspective of Susan Bassett’s Cultural Translation Theory, the perspective of Relevance Theory and so on. Nevertheless, people have been sharply pided on how to translate idioms. Some advocate that idioms should be translated literally, some deem that cultural equivalence is much more important, and some are otherwise-minded. Many domestic scholars and translators such as Zhang Peiji, Chen Wenbo and Zhang Ye have made distinguished contribution toward Chinese color idioms translation. And many foreign figures also carry substantial weight.文献综述

Nonetheless, the situation of color idioms translation is not too well since there are few studies in color idioms translation and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory is not widely applied in this field. Furthermore, there are so many differences in conceptual meanings, cultural connotations and associative meanings. Therefore, for the purpose of disseminating Chinese culture, the author wants to make a study of color idioms translation under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.
