Abstract Professor Hu Gengshen firstly applied Darwin’s “natural selection” and “survival of the fittest” principles in translation。 Later, Professor Hu further put forward eco-translatology which considers “Translation as adaptation and selection”。 The theory stresses the link between translators and transnational eco-environment。 The thesis is to compare the two Chinese versions of The Great Gatsby respectively translated by Wu Ningkun and Yao Naiqiang for their different experiences。 Through the comparison of the two versions, the transformation of ecological environment as well as its influences on translation activity can be easily seen。 Through thorough study on a great number of cases chosen from the two versions, it can be revealed that the two translators adopt different translation methods to reproduce the original ecological environment from three dimensions。 Additionally, the technicality as well as the practicability of translation has been achieved in the two versions。 The thesis is intended to draw more academic attention to the function of eco-translatology in the novel translation。 76023

1。 Introduction
The essence of literary translation roots in its aesthetic creation。 Literary translation, a special form of art creation, derives from translators’ study and artistic awareness of the original work。 Eco-translatology introduces the translation into the ecological system and takes different dimensions of translation into account。 A series of applied theories were also put forward。 The Great Gatsby is written by F。 Scott Fitzgerald, an American expert in chronicle and Poet Laureate of the 19th century。 It is acknowledged as an emblem of Jazz Age in American literature。 Since its advent, it has always been one of the America’s most popular novels。 At present, there appear several Chinese versions of The Great Gatsby。 While there are many scholars who study and analyze different versions of The Great Gatsby from various perspectives, few of them have studied from eco-translatology。 This thesis will take the two versions by Wu Ningkun and Yao Naiqiang as the study object to conduct a comparative study from this point。 All the thesis has four sections。 Part One mainly presents the thesis, the methodology, the outline and its meaning。 Part Two is a literature review, which introduces the evolution of eco-translatology and some of its basic definition。 Part Three analyzes the examples selected from two versions comparatively。 Finally, a conclusion ends。 The thesis aims to explore how Wu Ningkun and Yao Naiqiang make adaptation and selection respectively in their translational eco-environment。 By comparison, the thesis attempts to analyze how the two versions achieve the original effect from linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension。文献综述
