2。1 An Overview on Eco-translatology
Since Hu Gengshen firstly put forward the conception of eco-translatology in 2001, many related topics have enjoyed great popularity in translation。 All kinds of conference papers, graduation thesis and academic journals published one after another。 After more than ten years’ evaluation, eco-translatology has made remarkable advance both in theoretical construction and realistic usage。 It is significant in the research of translation and draws much attention from translators at home and abroad alike。 From 2001 to the present,, Professor Hu Gengshen has published over ten articles。 His Translation as Adaptation and Selection was released in 2004。 Then in 2008, Understanding Eco-translatology, in which the basic background, intention and research limitations of eco-translatology are discussed in detail, was published in Chinese Translators Journal。 Furthermore, Cay Dollerup highlighted the significant role of eco-translatology on translation in his work Eco-translatology in Translation Theory Contexts (Dollerup 2010)。 Some constructive ways were elaborated by Daniel Gile, to adjust to the translational eco-environment。 Another book Construction and Interpretation, written by Hu Gengshen, illustrates the new theory in detail。论文网
Nowadays, the tendency can be witnessed that more and more scholars pay attention to eco-translayogy and it has been gradually applicated in a variety of fields 。Under the guidance of the principle “natural selection, survival of the fittest”, eco-translatology lays the translator on an important position。 Eco-translatology comes out as a new pattern of translation theory, by which translation is named as “selection activity of translators” adaptation to translational eco-environment”(Hu 284)。 It offers a new perspective for literary translation。 The novel The Great Gatsby has always been popular among people from across the world, and it has quite a few Chinese versions。Although any scholars have done a comparative research into these versions of The Great Gatsby from different perspectives, few have employed eco-translatology to analyze these different versions。 In the light of eco-translatology, the translator’s adaptive transformation produces a successful translation from multiple dimensions (Hu 8)。 Hence, this dissertation is to get the two versions of Wu Ningkun and Yao Naiqiang compared and analyzed from eco-translatology。
