Actually ,It’s a simple story, which happens in in the St Louis  ,in  the  center  of America 。XuDatong, an outstanding clerk of a computer developer company ,comes from China and he has been in America eight years to pursue his own American dream with a happy family 。He announced in an Annual Award ceremony that he loved America 。the land of dream and miracle 。In addition ,he held a firm belief that his American dream would come true in some day。Unfortunately,He was get in the trouble of an unexpected lawsuit 。One day ,his son ,Daniel, got a fever 。But Xu and his wife were not at home 。Xu’s father, who came to America from China in few days

ago ,was incapable of understanding the English written in the description of medicine bottle 。Then he used   the traditional treatment ,Gua Sha ,which cured Daniel but  made a serious misunderstand。 The scar of Gua Sha ,even though not pain, became the evidence of Xu’s abuse on Daniel。

Gua Sha is Chinese Traditional therapy even if it has thousands years history 。It wasn’t acknowledged as a normal therapy by Westerner 。They have a principle that say according to the truth 。They believe science is from truth 。and they believe what they see。

The judge in the court would rather believe the scaring picture provided by the welfare house than the Xu’s gibberish without truth 。The judges ,and the welfare house, have  responsibility  for  the  security  of  Daniel  。Because  ,according  to  the  fact     of

picture ,Daniel has a rude father 。Besides，there are other evidence that the game he

designed is rather  violent  and  blooded  and  that  he  beat  his  son  in  front  of  his boss 。These evidence and Xu’s defence bring us to the difference of Chinese and Western culture 。In addition this movie also coversmany aspects of cultural difference between China and West ,such as the way of showing respect ,children education and Chinese filial piety。

3。 The Difference in Family Affection

As I have mentioned above,there are many cultural difference between China and the West。including:the difference in education on children,the difference in filial piety and the difference in the thinking model。So I will analyze these differences one by one。文献综述

When it comes to Xu’s abuse on Daniel ,In fact ,it is a question about difference between Chinese and American education on children 。What Xu holds is that Daniel

should be punished when Daniel is out of courtesy 。consequently ,When Daniel fought with his friends who is the son of Xu’s boss ,Xu punished his son in order to show reverence to his boss 。But his boss cannot figure out why Xu beats his son to respect him。Because ,Chinese assume that child is the belonging of them ;child must be obedient to his parents 。According to Chinese tradition。 From the sight of integrity of Chinese culture ,It is a static culture and a kind of country-oriented culture 。As China has broad and superior geographic advantages ,Chinese are accustomed to long-term residence 。,which facilitate the rapid development of family 。They prefer living in a fixed location to immigranting to a unfamiliar place 。As a result, Chinese culture is immobile and adds weight to family ,They value the respect for elder family members 。Chinese traditional festivals including Qingming festival in form of ancestor worship ,Double nine Festival in respect of seniority ,and the most important festival Spring  festival  ,are  all  created  in  memory  of  family  。In  the   common Chinese mind ,family is the same as country ,and country is family 。The only difference between family and country is the scale 。The static and nation-family culture directly contributes to the traditional moderation thought combined by benevolence ,obedience,  courtesy and faith。
