Chapter I. Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Classroom teaching is bilateral activity of teaching and learning between the teachers and the students, the effect of which mainly depends on the teaching art. Teachers teach for textbook, examination, for knowledge itself. In the trend of promoting quality education of students comprehensively, giving the learning right back to students, teachers are required to give up cramming education, to provide students with more opportunities in the class. Tasks, as a core of English classroom teaching, is a new teaching model based on this kind of thought, which aim at promoting students’ competence.
Task-based language teaching (TBLT) is a language teaching pattern which has been put forward through amount of research and practice by foreign language researchers; it transferred the basic idea of linguistic performance into classroom-teaching model which has great practical meaning.
TBLT is one of the effective ways which helps students to communicate by using language. Thus, it has been widely used in the world. Instead of saying that designing tasks is a science, it’s more of an art which includes the efficiency and creativity; it greatly stimulates the students' interest in learning, and forms a harmonious classroom atmosphere between teachers and students. As a language teacher, it’s an essential ‘art’ to grasp.
1.2 Purpose and significance of the research
This paper mainly focuses on the design on teaching tasks in primary school English classes. As the significant part of TBLT, a good teaching task is half done of a successful class. The purpose of writing is to find out more methods designing better teaching tasks, in order to improve students’ comprehensive ability, through analyzing the designing instance of teaching tasks applied in the primary school English class. In the instance of the application, the principles of designing are demonstrated.
From the learning perspective of the students, TBLT model is transformed to the task-oriented learning, it has been proved by practice by practice that task-oriented learning is not only helpful to students’ learning, also the comprehensive development. During the activities of the task, language is a tool for communication, the value of it is fully demonstrated .The direct feeling of the value on learning English would improve the learning self-consciousness of students.
