On Cultivating Students’ Ability of Critical Thinking in Primary English Teaching Chapter One Introduction
1。1 Background
The 21st century is an era full of opportunities and challenges。 China, a developing country, has made a great progress in recent years, which is obvious to the whole world。 However, the information explosion, rapid development of science and technology have tested the innovation of our talents constantly in recent years。 They feel stressed and exhausted in serious competitions since they do not have independent thinking。 In addition, the more creativity they are lack of, the more scholastic they will be。 Gradually, they get accustomed to the fixed working hours and regular lives and do not have courage to innovate boldly。 Without rules and guidance, they will feel disorientated and confused。 Undoubtedly, this kind of circumstance should be attributed to China’s exam-oriented education。文献综述
In 2010, this situation began to change。 The government pointed out that China’s education has a series of problems。 Firstly, the concept, content and method of teaching are relatively backward。 Secondly, quality education development proves a slow advance。 Thirdly, their lack of abilities to adapt to society and innovative ideas results in a shortage of creative talents。 Moreover, the plan also puts forward the new requirements of making efforts to stimulate the students to explore the spirit of innovation。 (National Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan (2010~2020)) This practice means our country finally has set about cultivating
people’s innovative thinking ability。
In the past, our education put more emphasis on technology-based talent training。 However, in recent years, this circumstance has begun to change, especially in English teaching areas。 At the beginning of the foundation of new China, we were seriously in lack of talents, especially English speaking talents who can bring in advanced science and technology from abroad。 Thus we began to add English subjects at schools。 However, due to the lack of experience in running a school, we copied the English teaching mode from the Soviet Union。 Until today, our English teaching modes still have very deep influences from Soviet Union。 Former English teaching paid more attention on practicality, which means teachers only need students to master English grammar and vocabulary, which relies on pure recitation。 But this rote teaching method cannot be adapted to today’s advanced society。 It is time to reform。
There are some good examples in some areas in China。 For example, in Shanghai, their reform mode of the college entrance examination in English will be changed。 It is said that in 2017 in the college entrance examination English will add the oral test, not only testing students’ English expression ability, but also emphasizing the use of language。 Current situation of this breakthrough will effectively change the “dumb English”。 This is a great progress we can see。来*自-优=尔,论:文+网www.youerw.com
