Hamlet’s enemy was his uncle because his uncle--Claudius killed his father and got married with his mother。 What’s worse, Claudius also wanted to kill Hamlet to spare all later troubles。 The final result was that Hamlet took revenge on his enemies at the expense of his own life。 At last, all main characters passed away bitterly and left Horatio alone。 Hamlet and Laertes were pricked by the sword with rank poison。 The queen, the mother of Hamlet, accidentally drunk the poisonous wine which Claudius prepared for Hamlet。 The villain of the drama-- Claudius was forced to drink the deleterious wine for Hamlet。 Before his death, Hamlet asked Horatio to tell the truth to all citizens and gave the throne to Fortinbras。 Hamlet’s revenge is a struggle between morality and family。 He originally had a future full of hope, but he was finally  killed by the poisoned sword, from the hope to the end of the disillusionment。 Though Hamlet was one of the four great tragedies written by Shakespeare and Hamlet’s whole life was full of misery, the ending part of the novel also highlighted bright future (Wang 44-50)。论文网

     When it comes to Edmond Dantes, he had three enemies--Danglars, Fernand, Villefort。 Before the murder, Edmond was the crew of the “Morrel Pharaoh”ship and was going to become the captain and married Mercédès-- a beautiful woman。 His rival-- Fernand was jealous of and hated him。 Danglars, the accountant of the cargo ship, wanted to replace Dantes to be the captain。  Then Fernand and Danglars cooperated to hand over the secret letter which Napoleon entrusted to Dantes to bring to someone。 The prosecutor of the case-- Villefort found that the recipient of the letter was his father。 In order to ensure their future, he pronounced that Dantes was an extremely dangerous political prisoner and put him on death row of the island。 As a result, Dantes’s father was starved to death and his fiancee married to Fernand。 With no doubt, the ending of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo is gratifying。 Edmond Dantes punished Fernand Mondego firstly through exposing Fernand’s darkest secrets。 After finding his wife and son running away from home, Fernand shotted himself because of fear and despair。 Faced with his second enemy-- Danglars, Dantes squeezed all money of Danglars。 Though Dantes finally forgave him and gave him fifty thousand francs to seek his own way, Danglars’s hair turned white due to fear。 Villefort was Dantes’s greatest enemy and Dantes decided to use a more brutal means to completely destroy Villefort’s everything。 Edmond Dantes noticed a flaw in the Villefort family。 He impelled Villefort’s second wife to use poison to kill Villefort’s previous father in law and the old servant。 After the exposure of the crime, Villefort’s second wife committed suicide and killed her son through taking poison。 Villefort couldn’t accept the cruel reality and finally became crazy。 Ultimately, Dantes put down all the hatred and left London。 Although Dantes hurt innocent people in the way of revenge, he made compensation for them。 This is a good ending to him (Li 23-24)。

3。1 The differences in revenge method

     Hamlet and Dantes used different methods to avenge because of their totally different background information and character traits。 Hamlet’s enemy was the most puissant person in Denmark so he must pretend to be insane to protect himself。 He was always indecisive during revenge。 Unlike Dantes, he became a powerful person after getting a sum of money。 He had no burden and showed his will and decision when he avenged。 

3。1。1 The method used by Hamlet--Pretending to be insane

     As we all know, it’s difficult for Hamlet to avenge because his enemy was the most powerful person。 As a result, Hamlet had to pretend to act like a fool。 Just doing like that, Hamlet could express his real ideas while others would not ask him to take the responsibility。 It would do harm to Hamlet if he made mistakes carelessly。 In order to verify the argument of the ghost and tested his uncle-- Claudius whether his uncle is the criminal who killed his father or not。 Hamlet arranged a short play and knew the truth。 Claudius wanted to kill Hamlet due to his fear and he decided to kill Hamlet through the help of Hamlet’s friends and the King of England。 Hamlet pretended not to know the truth and changed the contents of the letter and fled to Denmark secretly (Jiang 123-124)。文献综述
