Overall, this paper consists of six parts。The introduction part contains the relationship between culture, language and translation。 Besides, it involves the research significance and organization。Next, the second section is the Literature Review which is composed of the previous study of cultural default。The third part discusses the cultural default, among which there are definitions of default and cultural default and formation mechanism of cultural default。The fourth part deals with the possible translation problems caused by cultural default such as undertranslation, mistranslation and overtranslation。 The fifth part covers compensation for cultural default, including two parts。 First, the writer of this text puts forwad two principles on Compensation for cultural default。 And the second section is methods of cultural default compensation。 The five basic ways are annotation, contextual amplification, paraphrase, adaptation。The last part is conclusion。 This part summarizes the findings of the text and point out the limitations。
